A common woodland and forest tree of Eastern Australia. Known as Sydney Red Gum, Rose gum, or Rusty Gum, but is actually a member of the Myrtle (Myrtaceae) family and not a Eucalypt. The tree's scientific name is Angophora costata.
This specimen is growing along Gundamaian Road near the Anglican conference centre at the Northern end of the Royal National Park. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angophora_costata.
