Looking like three ladies out for a walk (at least that's what I see), these trees are known for surviving and thriving in very little soil, such as on this rocky sandstone outcrop. This tree is commonly known as Sydney Red Gum or Rusty Gum, but is actually a member of the Myrtle (Myrtaceae) family. The tree's scientific name is Angophora costata.
These specimens are growing along Gundamaian Rd at the Northern end of the Royal National Park, but they are a common tree throughout New South Wales and Southern Queensland. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angophora_costata.
